It has been revealed that a series of senior employee departures led to the closure of a US firm’s London branch.
Last week, Quantuma, an insolvency firm, appointed joint administrators to manage the affairs of Armstrong Teasdale. This is the UK operation of the US law office of the same name, based in St. Louis.
Quantuma has revealed that only a few employees were retained by the administrators in order to assist with the administration after “a series of well documented senior team departures severely impacted the UK firm’s capability to trade profitably”.
According to Sean Bucknall, Quantuma’s managing director, the company was forced to “complimentarily wind down” its UK operations.
Armstrong Teasdale acquired Kerman Legal Services in London, a firm that has been operating outside of the United States since 2021.
The City of London Law Society was approached in August of this year to help place 10 trainees or future trainees, who had either been placed in a firm or were currently in a placement.
The Law Society Gazette reports that staff were told last month of their dismissal.
