The analysis of more than 8.8 million job applications online in the United Kingdom shows that the median time for filling a vacancy was 40 days. Each role received 72 applications. SmartRecruiters’ research, a recruiting AI company that receives 72 applications for each job, reveals only 4.3% are invited to an interview. Only 1.1% of those candidates get a job offer.
The data shows that, in terms of recruitment, job applications are on average reviewed within 7 days. Interviews are held 15 days after the application is received. Companies using AI worldwide fill vacancies 26 percent faster than companies that do not.
The study examined 89 millions job applications in Australia, France Germany, the United States and the United Kingdom. In the United Kingdom, according to the study only 84% job offers are accepted. 10% of the jobs are filled by internal hiring processes.

This study is a part of SmartRecruiters’ newly established annual hiring benchmark reports, which provide insights on hiring trends, recruitment efficiency and internal mobility in key global markets. SmartRecruiters analysed aggregated and anonymised data from its applicant tracking system for 12 months, between September 2023 and August 2024.
