New jobs for healthcare workers prioritize mental health support

A poll found that three-quarters (76%) of healthcare workers prioritise mental health support in evaluating job offers.

Randstad’s 2025 Workmonitor, which surveyed more than 26 000 workers in 35 countries, concluded that healthcare professionals worldwide are increasingly focusing on the workplace environment when evaluating job opportunities.

More than half of respondents (53%) said that their employers had not yet implemented policies addressing mental support.

Nearly everyone (88%) said that a workplace with an atmosphere of community was important for their mental health.

Randstad found that nearly two-thirds of respondents (64%) felt ready to use AI and other new technologies. However, this figure is below the global average (71%).

Randstad argued that the study demonstrates “an urgent need” for employers in the healthcare industry to rethink their approach to attracting and retaining healthcare talent.

It said that healthcare organisations should place more emphasis on workplace support, foster a strong community and ensure people are equipped to succeed in the digital future of work.

The importance of mental health support is more important than the employer’s position on environmental issues (56%), their values and purpose (63%), even promotions (70%).

In Latin America and North America, mental health support is valued the least.

Below the global average (49%), less than half of respondents (47%) trust their employer to create a work environment that encourages colleagues to thrive.

Sander van ‘t Noordende said, “The data are clear: In the face of talent shortage, healthcare workers prioritize employers who provide not only mental support and a sense of community but also opportunities to develop their skills.

Nearly half of healthcare professionals are ready to leave employers that don’t have a supportive workplace culture, and many feel unprepared for the tech-driven changes. It is essential to build connected and future-ready work environments to retain and attract talent.
