The UK and Europe are’seeking skilled talent’, which is driving a sharp increase in overseas hiring of US professionals

According to data from Deel, the United States will hire more overseas workers in 2025 due to a persistent shortage of talent, especially in areas like AI, data science, and accounting. Data from HR platform a class=”aalmanual” href=”https://get.deel.com/6852tp9lwt6f” target=”_blank” title=””)>Deel/a> shows heightened overseas hiring in 2025, driven by persistent talent shortages – particularly in specialist areas such as AI, data science and accounting.

According to Deel the number of US employees hired by UK firms increased by 11,5% between January and April 20,25. Comparatively, growth in the same time period last year was only 2.8 percent. In 2025, US hiring has risen by 16.4 percent across Europe compared to the previous year.

Data from the jobs platform Indeed also shows that US professionals are increasingly interested in UK-based roles. The number of clicks by US job seekers on UK vacancies in the first quarter 2025 was at its highest level for nearly two years. This indicates that candidates are becoming more interested in the increased hiring of cross-border workers.

The demand for US talent is growing in European markets

This trend is most evident in the technology and financial sectors. European employers are increasingly looking to US-based employees to fill in gaps in their capabilities. Deel platform data shows that 53.36 per cent of US hires made by European companies were at the mid-level level, and 16.18 per cent at senior or management levels.

Outside of the UK, US professionals are most interested in Spain, Germany and the Netherlands. This hiring activity indicates that companies are increasingly accepting of remote work and distributed teams as they seek to create cross-border teams.

Nick Catino is the Head of Global Policy for Deel. He said: “We are seeing a clear increase in demand for US talents across Europe and the UK, especially in sectors such as AI and financial services, where there are known skill gaps in local markets. Today’s global tools make it easier than ever for companies to hire globally and for employees to access meaningful job opportunities across borders. “Companies that embrace this change will be better placed to fill critical roles, and remain competitive.”

Latin America and Asia-Pacific have seen consistent but smaller increases. US hirings in LATAM increased by 5.4 per cent in early 2025 from zero in 2024. APAC saw a growth of 6.5 percent in this year compared to just 2.6 percent during the same time period last year.

The strategic use of remote hiring to find talent

Companies are able to expand their talent search beyond national borders thanks to the expansion of remote-working technology and global payroll systems. This presents HR professionals with both operational and strategic challenges when managing international teams.

Matt Monette, country lead at Deel told HR Review, “Global talent competition, particularly in high-demand fields like AI, data sciences and finance, will continue to intensify and drive the trends in talent migration.” International hiring is one of fastest and most effective ways for UK and European companies to fill the skills gap.

Our recent data indicates that many Americans are interested to move and apply for more European-based jobs. In the future, businesses will increasingly use cross-border hiring and teams to recruit from across borders. Companies that are forward-thinking know the best talent is not within a 30-mile radius of their office. The right infrastructure will eliminate geography as a barrier for hiring talent. These hiring opportunities are huge for businesses who embrace this mindset.”

The latest data confirms that international hiring is not limited to multinational companies with multiple locations. More organisations are turning to international recruitment due to the flexible digital infrastructure available and the access to global employment services.
