The University of Salford launched a new cluster of research focused on creating better workplaces.
The Better Working Lives Cluster is composed of HR and Employment Law experts from the University, along with a partnership between HR and legal consulting firm Peninsula.
Researchers will examine and evaluate the impact on workplace evolution. They are aware that it is occurring at an ever-faster pace.
Dr Vicki Harvey will be the senior lecturer of people management. Dr Jonathan Lord is a senior lecturer on human resources management.
Ford cited a recent study that showed 77% of workers prioritise work-life harmony over career advancement.
Dr Lord stated: “2025 is already shaping as a pivotal workplace culture year, with the introduction of a number of new employment laws by the UK Government. It is therefore essential that companies make the necessary changes in order to protect their team’s productivity, while also supporting their employees’ wellbeing.
Research that is effective in determining the impact of changes occurring in real time, as well as cultural and technological shifts, will create a more equitable, inclusive, and prosperous workplace for everyone.
The cluster is designed to help deepen understanding of how work based on flexibility, employee voice and fair pay, as well as good people management, can lead to increased productivity.
The report will also identify initiatives to counter the negative effects of non-standard work arrangements and those that encourage employees to be active participants in their workplaces.
The main focus areas will be whistleblowing and the role of unions.

This research cluster will provide valuable insights that can be applied across industries and education in order to advance the HR industry for the benefit of everyone.
