The longest job interview in the world: a presidential race

It’s a Presidential Election. Elections are exactly what they seem to be. Interviews that are long and drawn out with limited selection of candidates. You can’t repost the job to get more applicants.

As a HR professional with two degrees in Political Science, I find myself combining both sides of my personality into every election. It’s politics; it’s recruiting. It’s both.

When deciding who to vote for, think about it as if you were evaluating a possible CEO. As an HR leader, it is your responsibility to find someone who can benefit the entire company, not just the one you like the best. Ask yourself the following questions.

You’ll do a position analysis before you hire anyone for a senior executive position. What are the skills required to do this job? Think about the main responsibilities of an American President.

  • Commander-in Chief of the Armed Forces This candidate must be able to work with senior military officials and understand the current status of the military in the country. To be successful, this person will need to gain the trust of the senior leaders as well as the troops. Understanding military history is essential, as well as the ability to predict long-term consequences.
